I feel this. I should be excited about all the new tech and experiences coming out. But the more online the future seems to be, the more I just want to "touch grass".
A major flaw in our human OS is being self-righteous or virtuous. Social media has homed in on that lever to pull as the primary engagement feature in their algorithms. Algorithmic "For You" feeds do not benefit the individuals consuming them.
The constant ping-ponging of political "gotchas" back and forth between red and blue tribes has worn me down. It makes us all dumber whether we participate or not and makes future generation's outlooks worse. I'm not sure how we regain our decorum as a society, but your idea is a good start.
i think i went a whole year (circa 2019) where i couldn't "un-see" self-righteousness everywhere i looked. it legitimately took a toll on my mental health, and i don't use those words lightly (for fake pity). from how people behave while standing in line, to customer service interactions, and of course as it relates here to the commentary on another's lifestyle. i'm not even sure how i recovered but your comment brings it all back. well played
I once wrote a note on substack, pleading folks to keep the engagement a little intelligent. Asked everyone not to post any & every thought that enters their mind, but to have a quality exchange of ideas. Got trolled so bad. Even the people who I saw as intelligent, who posted good quality content asked me to mind my own business. Never again.
I rarely share anything, I'm not a person who thinks anything needs to be shared because the chances are high that anything I see someone else has seen.
I have always blocked those that are offensive, but now block those that are unserious as well. It is a colossal waste of precious time to view/amplify empty calories. I'm not perfect at this, but I'm trying.

This is equal parts excellent and depressing Adam. But it needed to be articulated which you did well. Good stuff, thank you
Ah… the ‘Third Adam’ 🤪 Yup. I’ve been complicit. Telling myself lies of omission. Head’s (and Heart’s) up! Thanks so much. ❤️
