a rare 'disagree' from me. this morning i organized my little library, figuring out 5 genres then expanding to 12, 15, and of course re-arranging individual books as i went given the nature of great work spanning multiple domains. but anyway my point is that for me, creativity sort of requires simplifying / clarifying / tidying-up *everything else around* to remove distractions from whatever i'm trying to be creative about. like how a magnifying glass turns ordinary sun into fire through focus.

Exactly. Personally once the (physical) clutter gets above some level I slow down mentally. There’s just too many things to keep track of.
