Very interesting points. I am already sick of the 'paint-by-numbers drivel churned out by AI' and love the 'unique, less heard stories' like you can find sometimes on Substack. The human touch, the attention to details as you say. But what do you think about AI systems training their systems on your writing? You say, no one can accurately replicate the details of your writing, but they may come close. Training on this very post for example. It's already started. It's not just modernity, though, is it? Most of every time period is not memorable, no? 🤪
The difference for the long tail of the most recent cycle is that most all of it is recorded/preserved. In the past, it rotted or was forgotten or just lost because it wasn't memorable. Instead of a right to be forgotten, perhaps we need a requirement or mandate for things to be forgotten.
The media reports that an absurd number of young folks these days just "want to be influencers" instead of doing something "of worth" with their lives. I have to wonder if that's really any different than in centuries of yore when many aspired to having patrons for their "art."
Random connection: I read a paper two decades back when I was at Microsoft written by someone who proposed creating a system that would digitally age photographs and videos and documents in storage by adding noise and bit-rot to mimic the organic process that used to age physical photographs, paintings, and such. I used to think he was crazy…but I'm starting to wonder if he was just ahead of his time.
great comment, interesting concept on the aging of digital documents, but I think the style ages with time anyhow and has timestamps so prob unnecessary (if kinda cool)

Nice piece.
Sasha is a master of the longform.
His albums are modern-day equivalents of symphonic poems.
Idea for bumper sticker:
BRIDGES NOT BANGERS
IYKYK
Love this album you linked.
Create for the nerds. Hell yah
