No one wants a text-based Instagram, and even Elon's missteps won't be enough to make it interesting beyond the Paris Hilton/goldfish attention-span crowd
Quite a mix here. People living in dilemma. Twitter has a completely different sentiment. You can get users on threads but their behavious won’t change because they are connected to the same people on threads. That fast growth is going to harm meta. You get a bunch of hippies together. The music stops they are going away and this might happen in next few weeks.
I'm still content to give them a month or two to sort things out. Long term I'll probably be disappointed and still not trusting of Meta but right now it's the people I'm more interested in.
I agree with you and don't trust any Social Media platform. I am using Threads a bit and I absolutely think Elon is not a well-intentioned leader (although I'm still on Twitter). He is actively trying to make Twitter/X/Whatever terrible (my opinion only!) As usual, thanks.
I spoke to some Instagram users yesterday who'd not heard anything about Threads being released. Has Meta announced it to Instagram users? I haven't joined Threads yet, and haven't seen any notifications from Instagram about it. (Unless they were sent by email? I don't look at the email account where social media notifications are sent.)
People who've carefully curated the posts they see on Threads (to avoid the content you describe) say they're enjoying the content and community so far. I'll try it soon.

I'm still in wait and see mode. I'm not much of a Meta fan but it's been really nice to connect with former Twitter acquaintances and friends.
